Our ELS Language Center in Teaneck, New Jersey is situated on 20 hectares of wooded land on the campus of Fairleigh Dickinson University (FDU), just 30 minutes from New York City. Teaneck is a wealthy suburb located in a beautiful and safe area on the border of New Jersey. Teaneck's city center is just a short distance from the FDU campus and is accessible by walking. Teaneck's ethnically diverse community as well as its ethnic restaurants and shops create a welcoming environment for international students.

ELS has developed a 12-week comprehensive Prep Program for the TOEFL® iBT that gives you the best preparation possible and the confidence you need to succeed! The new Internet based TOEFL® iBT requires students to answer questions related to speaking, listening, reading and writing – and measures not just what you know, but how well you can express yourself and apply your knowledge. By taking the Prep Program, you will practice integrated reading and listening skills, improve writing and speaking, as well as learn test-taking strategies.

College Class Visits and Auditing
ELS Intensive students (in key levels) can visit one or more college classes, depending on professor approval.

Fairleigh Dickinson University scholarship
Fairleigh Dickinson University (FDU) will offer a $5,000 scholarship to any ELS Language Center student who graduates from ELS’ Level112 Intensive Program. The scholarship is for the duration of their studies at FDU as long as a minimum grade point average of 2.0 is maintained.

TOEFL Testing Center

On-campus Student Residence

All ELS Centers offer homestay accommodations with an English-speaking host family. ELS host families are carefully screened to ensure they provide a pleasant and safe “home away from home” for our students. Living with a host family can help you learn English faster while experiencing American customs and culture firsthand. Students often develop very close relationships with their hosts — friendships that can last a lifetime. Students usually have their own room, but occasionally a shared double occupancy room may be assigned in the case of room shortage. Students are responsible for their personal transportation.

Center Staff

Melissa Rigas
Melissa Rigas has been the Center Director at Teaneck for almost three years. She spent 21 years teaching in France and in Asia & specializes in cross-cultural communication, cross-cultural management and Asian culture. She speaks French and has studied Korean, Japanese and Mandarin Chinese.

Sandra Pesa
Sandra Pesa, Academic Director has been at ELS for 3 ½ years and joined the Teaneck team one year ago. She spent over four years managing a large language school in Central Europe. She specializes in curriculum development, classroom pedagogy and English for executives. She speaks Croatian and Greek.
