ELS/Melbourne is located on the campus of the Florida Institute of Technology (Florida Tech) just minutes from Florida’s beautiful white-sand beaches. Florida Tech offers a state-of-the-art campus nestled in a tropical garden of flowering plants and palm trees. Many students enjoy weekend visits to Walt Disney World Resorts®, Magic Kingdom®, EPCOT®, Disney’s Hollywood Studios®, Animal Kingdom® and Universal Studios®. Students may also experience Space Shuttle and rocket launches from nearby NASA's Kennedy Space Center.

College Class Visits and Auditing
ELS Intensive students (in key levels) can visit one or more college classes, depending on professor approval.
Access to Campus Facilities/Services
ELS students may use many of the facilities at our host college/university for free (or low cost) during their studies. Available facilities may vary, but usually include a fitness center, swimming pool, campus library, tennis court, and more.

Center Staff
Betty Jean Humpherys
Betty Jean, Center Director began her ESL career teaching at ELS/St. Petersburg in 1981. She has taught ESL at Florida Institute of Technology, Brigham Young University and ELS/Melbourne. She received her MA in Linguistics from BYU. At ELS/Melbourne she began as the Registrar in 2002 and has served as a teacher, Academic Director and is currently the Acting Center Director. Her goal is to maintain a comfortable, productive academic environment ensuring steady student matriculation to the best US universities. Aside from being a second mom to the students, she is the proud mother of three college students Sarah, Emily, and Michael.
Rebecca Van Epp
Rebecca began as an instructor at ELS/Melbourne and then moved into the International Student Advisor position. Her previous classroom experience as a teacher has helped her to transition smoothly into the ISA role. Rebecca graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science from Samford University in Birmingham, AL. After graduating, she worked in sales and marketing for 8 years at the FLORIDA TODAY newspaper. Rebecca enjoys working in an international environment and helping students reach their academic goals. When not working at ELS, Rebecca spends time with her friends and family. She also loves to shop, and travel.
Rene Aiello
Rene has been the Registrar at ELS/Melbourne since 2005. Rene’s previous work experience as an administrative assistant in a school district and law firm in Pennsylvania has been an asset to this center. She is detail-oriented, positive, patient, and loves working with international students. Rene moved to Melbourne three years ago with her husband and three sons. She enjoys the beach, pool and being with her big Italian family. Rene adds finesse and flair to our Melbourne family.
Amy Hoover
Ms. Hoover is the Academic Director and has been with ELS Language Centers since 1997. She has a Bachelors degree in English Literature from Indiana University and spent a year teaching English as a Second Language in Seoul, Korea. She worked as a tutor in Indianapolis before joining ELS/Melbourne. She has also worked as an International Student Advisor. She is a TOEFL test administrator. Amy’s primary responsibilities include training new teachers and maintaining relationships between instructors and students.
