Jim Minor
Center Director: Jim has over 15 years experience in English language assessment, curriculum development and instruction. Since receiving his MA in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages from the University of Texas in 1991, he has taught in universities, community colleges, adult education centers, and corporate settings. For 10 years, Mr. Minor directed ESL programs at university and community college levels, developing and implementing both community-based and academic curricula. In addition to authoring numerous publications (including his most recent self-study textbook, Ingles Curso Completo; Random House, 2008), Mr. Minor has often presented at professional conferences at both the state and national levels. Jim understands the challenges of learning a new language and adapting to a new culture, having lived in Europe and the Middle East. His greatest source of pride, however, is his family, with whom he enjoys music, movies, The Office, and just about anything active.
Kahlema Calaway
My name is Asauntewa "Kahlema" Calaway. I am the Registrar at ELS New Haven. I am the loving mother of two wonderful daughters. I grew up in Brooklyn, New York. Brooklyn is commonly referred to as one big melting pot. I feel fortunate to have been provided with the opportunity of being a member of a community that has a very diverse and mixed group of cultures and ethnicities. Growing up in Brooklyn has enhanced my knowledge of various roots and cultures from all around the world. I love learning and participating in multi-cultural activities. I find myself trying to cook meals that are traditional to other parts of the world. I raise and encourage my children to set their sights beyond their physical boundaries and explore the world. I am proud to say that I am a member of the ELS New Haven team. It’s almost like finding myself at “home sweet home" again!
