All ELS Centers offer homestay accommodations with an English-speaking host family. ELS host families are carefully screened to ensure they provide a pleasant and safe “home away from home” for our students. Living with a host family can help you learn English faster while experiencing American customs and culture firsthand. Students often develop very close relationships with their hosts — friendships that can last a lifetime. Students usually have their own room, but occasionally a shared double occupancy room may be assigned in the case of room shortage. Students are responsible for their personal transportation.

Note: ELS will place the student in one of the listed room types based on availability (same price). Most students are placed in a double room.

Kathleen is an advocate at school and in the community for cross-cultural understanding and social responsibility. She graduated from the University of California, Santa Cruz.

She recently completed The Global Citizen curriculum for the ELS Masters levels. Sharyn studied, and worked in Heidelberg, Germany and taught with the U.S. Peace Corps in Malaysia. Douglas later received an M.A. in TESOL from the Monterey Institute of International Studies. In addition to his full-time work at ELS, Douglas teaches with the Los Angeles City adult school program. Douglas’ main pedagogical focus is the interactive and communicative use of language in the classroom.

Casey Kessinich
Senior Instructor, Casey Kessinich’s interest in language and culture prompted him to earn his degree in English and Italian at UCLA. He spent one year studying Italian language and literature at the Leonardo Da Vinci School in Rome and the University of Bologna. Out of this adventure came the opportunity to teach English at middle schools and high schools in Italy and ultimately the chance to join the staff at ELS where new worlds are discovered daily.

Frank Cosentino
Frank, Instructional Specialist,, graduated from the University of Connecticut with a major in history and political science. After volunteering as a secondary school teacher with the U.S. Peace Corps in Guatemala , he received an M.A. in English and Linguistics from the University of Southern Illinois. Patrick Allebaugh
Patrick, Senior Instructor graduated from Virginia Tech in 1999 and first worked with the Virginia Film Commission in locations management assistance.  Although this was an exciting job, he always yearned for opportunities in cultural exchange and the chance to see the world. This desire led him to Ilsan, South Korea, in 2002 where he taught English for three years. He discovered a passion, and continued teaching English at ELS/Santa Monica after returning to the United States late in 2005.

Ozden Oztopcu
Ozden, Instructor, was born in Istanbul, Turkey, came to the U.S. when she was one, and was raised bilingually. Jocelyn, Instructor, graduated from the University of Pittsburgh in Speech Communication Science. She spent a semester teaching English through the University of Pittsburgh, and six months tutoring in Spain. She is fluent in Spanish and conversational in American Sign Language.
