Quality of Instruction

High Standards

All ELS teachers are professional educators with experience in English language instruction. The majority hold Master's degrees.

Recognition

In 2008, ELS instructor Judith Dillon received the award for Excellence in Teaching from TESOL (Teachers of English to Speakers of Other Languages), the international organization representing the ESL profession.

Continual Training

ELS teachers engage in professional growth opportunities throughout the year, including monthly professional development workshops.

Dedicated Teachers

ELS is known for the dedication, skills, and length of service of our teachers. Many of our instructors have taught at ELS for 15 years or more.

Excellent Curriculum

The ELS curriculum is refreshed and improved regularly through suggestions and feedback from our most experienced instructors and from our students.

Active Participation in Professional Education Communities

Many of the most experienced teachers at ELS—Senior Instructors and Instructional Specialists—are members of TESOL.

ELS instructors are encouraged to participate in professional organizations and conferences and are recognized for doing so. Since 2007, ELS instructors and staff have given more than 40 academic presentations at the annual local and international TESOL Conferences.

ELS presents regularly at NAFSA, the Association of International Educators, where it holds the largest number of memberships of a single organization. Also, ELS Instructors, Center Directors, and other staff have held multiple offices and committee memberships in TESOL, NAFSA, and related advocacy groups serving the ESL community.
