University Admissions
Gain Admission to Colleges and Universities with ELS

Each year, ELS helps thousands of international students achieve their dream of earning a college or university degree in North America. More than 650 colleges and universities accept completion of a specified level of ELS's English for Academic Purposes program as meeting their English language requirement for admission.

Your Path to Studying at a College or University

step
1

Enroll for English studies at ELS Language Centers

To achieve admission to a North American college or university, international students must provide proof of English language proficiency. They can do so by completing an advanced level at ELS in the English for Academic Purposes program. Students who complete Level 109 meet the English proficiency requirements of select community (2-year) colleges. Students who complete Level 112 meet the English requirements of select 4-year institutions and some graduate schools. See UniversityGuideOnline.org for a list of institutions that accept completion of an advanced level as proof of English proficiency.

step
2

Choose a University

Visit UniversityGuideOnline.org and search our extensive database of schools. Find schools by location, major, test criteria, tuition cost and much more. Once you have selected a school, create a profile on the website to begin your application process.

step
3

Apply for the Conditional Letter of Admission (CLA) at your chosen institution

ELS partner universities offer a conditional letter of admission, which grants you college admission if you achieve English language proficiency. English language proficiency is attained by completing Level 112 in the ELS English for Academic Purposes program and/or through achieving a specified score on the TOEFL® or IELTS™ tests. You should verify what your chosen institution requires.

step
4

Study at one of our 60+ centers

You need to check with your chosen institution to determine if the school requires completion of a specified ELS level, and/or TOEFL® or IELTS™ scores. Plans should be in place to complete all required ELS class levels and/or test preparation programs at one of ELS's 60+ locations.

step
5

Choose one of three options:

Complete ELS Level 109 or 112

By completing the ELS English for Academic Purposes program, you satisfy the English requirement for over 650 ELS partner universities.

Achieve the required TOEFL® Score

A number of ELS partner universities and colleges also accept a specified score on the TOEFL® iBT as proof that students have the English language skills necessary to succeed in an academic setting. Apply to take the test or apply for a test preparation program first. The TOEFL® iBT is available at all ELS Centers*.

Achieve the required IELTS™ Score

Certain schools require a specified score on the IELTS™ test as proof that students have the English language skills necessary to succeed in an academic setting. This test is available at more than 30 ELS Centers.
