Hello, I am a native of Cleveland. I have been with ELS/Berlitz for 8 years working as an instructor and instructional supervisor. Working with International people has been highly interesting and educational. It has been a pleasure exchanging cultures with many people over the years…pro athletes, executives, and students of all ages. I have a degree in Italian Studies from Miami University of Ohio for which I spent 2 summers in Urbino, Italy. I also have a degree in International Studies. I look forward to working with you.
Maria Oriti
International Student Advisor
Hi! I am Maria Oriti and I began working at the ELS center at first as a teacher. I also taught ESL to children and adults in Italy and Spain for 2 years. While abroad, I stayed with host families, travelled as much as I could, and studied new languages. I truly love being in an environment where I can meet people from other cultures and learn from them. As the International Student Advisor, it will be my pleasure to make your experience in Cleveland memorable, positive and lots of fun!
Regina Maneiro

My name is Regina Maneiro and I have been the Registrar at ELS/Cleveland for more than twenty years. What I enjoy most about working at ELS Language Center is the opportunity to help the students and make a positive difference in their experience at ELS/Cleveland. See you soon!
Shelly Lamb
IELTS Administrator
My history with ELS Language Centers dates back to the early 1990s when I was completing my MA in English while teaching at ELS. I enjoyed working with international students back then every bit as much as I do now. After several rewarding years of teaching, I left ELS in order to be a stay-at-home mom to my two wonderful sons, run a business, and even host a foreign exchange student. In 2008, I returned to ELS to teach. I subsequently added the IELTS Administrator role.
Coming back after a hiatus gives me a unique perspective on, and a special appreciation for, ELS and its students!

Do you want to experience real English? Are you hesitating about what school you should choose for improving English? If so, the answer to those questions is ELS in Cleveland, Ohio. I have studied English at ELS in Cleveland for about 10 months. Before I chose this center as a study place for 1 year, I also thought of a lot of possible choices and considered about it over and over as you may do the same. My decision was not wrong; it was the greatest choice ever. Why? First reason is the location. Cleveland center is located in a clam and peaceful city, Cleveland, in Ohio. The campus where ELS is situated is surrounded by fabulous nature and a lot of well-known cultural places such as the Cleveland Museum of Art and the Cleveland Museum of Natural History. You will be able to improve your English skill at ELS as well as with the famous museums through visual learning. In addition, you can get together with native students who go to the host university, Case Western Reserve University, and make a variety of friends either at the ELS school, or around the university campus. What I think the best thing the Cleveland center has is the people's kindness. Not only are all the teachers kind, thoughtful and generous, but the staff working in the offices always take care of students and give warm hands to help them not get in trouble with unfamiliar American life. When it comes to teachers and curriculum of ELS, both of them are well harmonized with professional abilities of teachers and helpful textbooks. Especially, long experienced teachers always encourage students to keep on the track of studying English and cheer them up through constant feedback. As a matter of fact, I am not perfect at English right now, and still need to improve, but I have gotten so much confidence and I will be able to continue to study English based on teaching of ELS. If you start studying with ELS Cleveland, I am 100% sure you will be fully satisfied with your choice and you will overcome the fear of learning a foreign language. ELS Cleveland is the key which introduces you to a new world and enables you to achieve your goal more easily.

I would like to say that I like ELS Cleveland and enjoy spending my time to learn English here. ELS has a very friendly environment and the teachers are very patient and always available to answer questions. In particular, they give you enough time to understand your mistakes. All in all, they are very professional in teaching English and helping you to do your best. Also, I like the location of ELS Cleveland because it is in the center of Case Western Reserve University campus and it makes it easier to meet students to practice English with native speakers. I am sure that ELS is the best place for anybody who dreams to learn English and discover American culture.

The most important reason why I came to ELS/Cleveland is to improve my English. They can give you systematical teaching and tutoring. The teachers and administrators are friendly and patient and help you out of problems. They are all helpful and obliging. In fact, ELS is not only a place to learn a second language, but also a place to learn about other countries' cultures. This is a cross-cultural center, because people are from different countries. So we can extend our social circle with different foreign friends. I believe ELS/Cleveland is the best choice for you!

The beginning of my new life started last summer in Cleveland, Ohio. I attended the ELS Center Cleveland for 8 months because I was a foreign student and I wanted to have new experiences, friends, and information about American's culture. I wanted to improve my English because I know that this language is necessary not only for my future job, but also for better welfare. I was really surprised and happy because the ELS center in Cleveland offers many interesting and useful opportunities which I received from classes such as: Structure and Speaking Practice, Reading and Writing, Language Technology Studies, and other special classes, for example, Advanced Grammar, Listening, or Vocabulary, TOEFL Preparation, Creative Writing, Touchy Situations, or Writers' Workshop, and many others. These diverse and colorful selections helped me in many areas of improving English. I have very good relationship with the staff in this center. The teachers and administrators are friendly, helpful, and supportive. Thanks to them I have better opportunities for my future since I have attended the ELS center Cleveland.

The ELS center in Cleveland provides English courses which are very beneficial to me. I can practice everyday and academic conversations, learn vocabulary and how to interact with English speakers and this prepares me for more advanced work. I can explore U. S. culture and customs by visiting museums and cultural attractions in Cleveland. It allows me to reach my language learning goals quickly; also, I have the opportunity to practice English not only in the classroom, but also through social activities. I feel that this additional study at ELS in Cleveland will make me better prepared to succeed in the undergraduate courses. Come to learn English at the ELS center in Cleveland. English is a common and worldwide language like “Music.” By using English we can share several experiences with each other. Teachers in this ELS center are essential for me to become an English speaker. Not only in class but also after school, they are willing to teach us English. Because the teachers give us several topics to discuss in class, I could get interested in American and other countries' culture, education and religion. And also, this ELS center provides us with lots of fun events including apple picking, watching basketball and baseball, ski and snow boarding and shopping and so on. This ELS center is located in Case Western Reverse University, therefore we have many academic opportunities here. In my case, I belong to a laboratory as a voluntary researcher. I am very lucky to be with teachers here. Good luck for your English and experience!
Niagara Falls is just about a 4 hour drive from Cleveland. We spent a whole day on a sunny Saturday in May walking around in the parks and getting great views of the Falls.
We are always planning fun activities and trips with our students in Cleveland. These pictures include a personal tour at the Playhouse Square Center, the United States' second largest theatre complex, the popular shopping area called the West Side Market, and a view of downtown Cleveland from the observation deck at the Terminal Tower. Also, we went to hear music from the Cleveland Orchestra at the beautiful Severance Hall!
We went to see an amazing display of lights on houses in a nearby neighborhood! Also, we got to see decorated gingerbread houses and Christmas trees at the Winter Holiday Show at the Cleveland Botanical Gardens.
