  • Undergraduate: Digital Media, Environmental Health, Finance, Nursing, Public Health, Sports and Leisure Management
  • Graduate: Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology, Biomedical Sciences, Mathematical Sciences, Public Administration, Technology

The Top 10 reasons students choose ELS/Johnson City:

  • College experience: ETSU provides international students with a traditional US campus experience, with attractive classic-looking buildings and a strong collegiate atmosphere. The ELS Center is located on the campus.
  • Location: The lovely setting in the foothills of the Blue Ridge (Appalachian) Mountains provides you with wonderful opportunities for enjoying the outdoors: hiking, fishing, rafting, skiing and much more.
  • Music: This area is known for its music. In addition to annual music festivals and "First Friday" art and music celebrations every month, there are many places in Johnson City and nearby towns that offer live music several nights a week. ETSU offers degrees in many aspects of music, including a bachelor’s degree in Bluegrass and Old Time and Country Music Studies.
  • Strong academic rankings: ETSU is ranked in The Princeton Review as one of America’s Best Value colleges. It is rated a doctoral/research university and is known for its outstanding programs in several areas, such as industrial technology and a very wide range of programs under health sciences (rural medicine; nursing, pharmacy, primary care education and more; it is affiliated with several area hospitals). The Princeton Review also included ETSU in its list of the Best 300 Business Programs in the Nation.
  • Nature on campus: ETSU is a designated arboretum due to its large number of unusual trees. There are ETSU hiking trails around the campus.
  • Planetarium: ELS/Johnson City is the only Center with a planetarium in the same hallway as the ELS offices! Public planetarium events are offered through the year.
  • History: The Gray Fossil Site at the ETSU and General Shale Brick Natural History Museum is part of the university’s Center for Excellence in Paleontology. It is a fascinating place to visit, and new discoveries about the Miocene epoch (23 to 5 million years ago) are continually being made there.
  • Sports: ETSU athletic teams all compete in the NCAA Division I Atlantic Sun Conference. Many other college-level sports (golf, soccer, tennis, track and field, baseball and more) are represented at ETSU, giving you great opportunities to watch exciting college team games!
  • University access: As an ELS student, you receive an ETSU/ELS ID card and have access to the library and free shuttle, as well as to the excellent fitness and sports facilities on campus.
  • Affordability: Johnson City is rated by Kiplinger’s Personal Finance magazine as # 5 in the Top Ten least expensive cities in America in which to live.
