Raylene Houck
Academic Director
Hello! I am the Academic Director at ELS Pocatello; I began my ELS career in 2005 as an instructor and was promoted to AD in January 2007. Working here far exceeds my expectations of a positive language learning environment. It's a joy to help our students learn their new language and move on to accomplish their goals. ESL is an exciting field, and this is the best place to experience that excitement first hand!
Mendee Henkey
Registrar
I enjoy working as Registrar at ELS Pocatello. The experience interacting with our worldwide students is unbelievable. My family enjoys the ELS students; especially my two children who love visiting with the students. The students are very friendly and are very hard workers. It's enjoyable to encourage their participation in the many activities the center provides. Working for GE Capital Financial, which took me traveling around America working on international technology buying team, and Harley Davidson, which brought the world to me through motorcycle enthusiasts traveling in America, prepared me for the ELS journey.. Thanks for sharing your lives with us in Pocatello.

Hello! I am from Daejeon University in Korea. My university is partnered with ELS, so I had the opportunity to learn English at
ELS in Pocatello and experience the culture there. I was only able to be away for one month (January) in Pocatello, but I feel more confident with my English. The ELS and Idaho State University activities are very good and when I was not in class, I worked on a lot of speaking. We went skiing, took a trip to the hot water natural springs, attended basketball games, went kayaking, and went to the English conversation group on Thursday nights. ELS also took us to Yellowstone National Park, which is very cold in the winter—my hair froze, but it was a lot of fun. We got to see animals and the geysers erupt. I also lived in a dormitory on the college campus, so I got to live with American neighbors.

Naoko
December 14, 2012
Konnichiwa! My name is Naoko and I study at the ELS center in Pocatello. I came here because Pocatello is a safe place, inexpensive, and has a beautiful environment. ELS has many activities and I love participating in them because they decrease my stress. We have done lots of things like horse-back riding, swimming, and relaxing in the hot springs.
I love nature so much and Pocatello is a very inspiring place. In the future, I want to use my skills in design to inform people about protecting endangered animals. The English I learn at ELS will help me communicate with people all over the world.

Hello! My name is Azusa. I came to Pocatello to study English 8 months ago. I like to study in Pocatello because it is a small town and is very safe. The people are also so friendly. I live with a Homestay, so I have a Japanese and American family. They take me camping, traveling, and I get a lot of practice speaking with them. I even ran a half marathon with my host mother. That was crazy!
I will start studying a bachelor in Political Science at university soon. I was nervous before, but I am ready now. Good luck to all students and have fun!

Hamed
December 14, 2012
Hi! My name is Hamed. I graduated from ELS, Pocatello and now I am an accounting major at ISU. When I first came to the US, I didn’t know any English. Now, I am fluent. My dream was to study university in the US and my teachers helped prepare me, especially with grammar, reading, and writing. At the time it was difficult for me, but I was so happy to get my certificate when I graduated.
My advice for students is to make friends with Americans and participate in a lot of activities.

Salam! My name is Fadel. I came to ELS in Pocatello to study English because it is safe, beautiful, quiet, and is less expensive than many other places. Since I came here, I’ve had a lot of practice speaking, writing, reading, and now I can even understand people who speak English with different accents. ELS in Pocatello is a great place to study. I’ve studied at a few different places and no place is as good as ELS in Pocatello.
My goals are to go to Idaho State University and study business management. I want to be a manager in my family’s company. ELS has helped me improve my English, so I will be able to use the English to communicate with customers and employees around the world.
Students spent the night bowling and eating pizza.
