What is Conditional Admission?

Institutions in the ELS University Conditional Admission Network offer conditional admission to students who are academically admissible based on the student’s academic record and other university and/or departmental and program requirements, but who have not yet demonstrated English proficiency. Your admission is “conditional” based upon satisfying English proficiency through completion of a specified level of the ELS English for Academic Purposes program and any other specific requirements prior to full admission. Once these requirements are fulfilled, you are able to fully matriculate. These requirements will be outlined on your Conditional Letter of Admission, and your selected ELS center will assist you in completing all of the necessary requirements for matriculation.

Additional matriculation requirements may include other required scores, for example, GMAT® or GRE® for graduate programs.

Our ELS University Partners will offer a Conditional Letter of Admission (CLA) detailing the additional requirements needed for matriculation. You and your family can be assured that you have a university placement and ELS registration prior to departing for the USA.

What is the Conditional Admission Process?

  1. Find a university via our University Finder
  2. Apply for university admission and enroll for English studies at ELS Language Centers with help from a local ELS authorized Counseling Agent.
  3. If you are an acceptable candidate for university admission, you receive a letter of "Conditional university admission subject to English proficiency and submission of any other required documentation for matriculation."
  4. Study at any of the 60 ELS Centers in the USA to fulfill the university entrance requirement for English proficiency.
  5. Begin your university program!

Center Director

The College at Brockport in Rochester, NY is proud to be the first college in the SUNY system to host an ELS Language Center. Our facility is brand new. We welcomed our first students on March 25th, 2013. We are still small so each student receives individual attention. Dr. Wendy Fritz has worked on the college campus for over seven years. She is familiar with the campus and the workings of higher education. Her relationship with the host institution makes students feel welcome the minute they step on campus and into the ELS Language Center.

Kevin Fleming

Kevin Fleming

International Student Advisor

Kevin Fleming comes to ELS from the State University of New York at Oswego, where he worked extensively in International Student Affairs and Residential Life. Kevin recently finished his post-graduate studies with an MAT. He is a former art teacher, and now works in both Student Affairs and ELS at Brockport. Kevin enjoys downhill skiing, spending as much time as possible in the Adirondack Mountains, creating graphic design work for clients, and preparing for his second graduate degree. He is also a ceramic sculptor and potter, who creates multimedia art in his spare time.

Theresa Weed

Theresa Weed


Theresa Weed recently joined the team as the new Registrar. Prior to working at ELS, Theresa worked as the village Tax Receiver. She also spent three years on campus as the Bookkeeper in the college bookstore. Theresa is a native of the Brockport area. She is a member of the Brockport MOMS Club, and the Brockport PTSA. When she is not working, she enjoys reading, riding her bike, spending time with her husband, and chauffeuring her two teenage children around town. Theresa is looking forward to working with the ELS staff and students.

Charles Harris

Charles Harris


Charles Harris graduated from the University of Rochester with a B.A. in English and German. He was awarded a Fulbright scholarship to the University of Munich following his undergraduate studies. He has taught ESL for over 20 years in a number of cities in the U.S. and abroad, including Cologne, Berlin, Boston, San Francisco, and New York. In addition to his ESL teaching duties, he also works freelance as a translator, writer, and photographer in his native Brockport, New York.

Lauren Lesce


Lauren is a native of Rochester, NY. She holds Bachelor's degrees in Political Science and Spanish from SUNY Geneseo. She also holds a Master's degree in Spanish and a Certificate of Advanced Studies in TESOL from Syracuse University. Lauren has taught ESOL and Spanish at the high school and university levels.

Rebeka Fergusson-Lutz

Rebeka Fergusson-Lutz


Rebeka Fergusson-Lutz earned a B.A. in English and art
history at Boston University. At American University, Washington, D.C., she
earned 7-12 English teaching certification, an M.A.T. (Master of Arts in
Teaching) with a concentration in English education, and an M.A. in
international peace and conflict resolution. She has taught English,
English as a Second/Foreign Language, social studies, and English pedagogy in a
variety of settings -- Oman, Qatar, Romania, and Washington, D.C. -- to students
of varied ages -- middle school, high school, and university level.

Anne Bennett

Anne Bennett


Anne Bennett, a native of Rochester, received her M.A. in
TESOL and B.A. in German from Nazareth College. She has taught Children of all ages in public and private elementary and secondary schools. Anne currently works with college-level students and aside from working at ELS, she is a tutor for ESL students.

Rabia Zouaghi


In 2008, Rabia received a bachelor degree in translation studies (Arabic/English/French) From University of Mentouri of Constantine, Algeria. From 2009-2010 he taught French, and in 2010 he received the Fulbright grant from the U.S. Government.

Along with the many shopping trips and events we've had this session, we have discovered the Rochester Museum and Science Center! ELS Rochester enjoyed the complex, seeing an IMAX film at the Strasenburgh Planetarium and multiple anthropological exhibits!

ELS Rochester took a day trip to the Waterloo Premium Outlets, a large shopping mall. Lots of great deals were found on winter clothing. The students are prepared for the brisk weather, and many are very excited for the upcoming winter as they've never seen snow before!

Welcome to Brockport

The College at Brockport is located on the Erie Canal. A multi-million dollar Recreation Center just opened last year. Our Physics and Chemistry laboratories were just renovated, and a new academic building will open in 2014. We are a dynamic campus, always improving our facilities.
