Our ELS Language Center in Indianapolis, Indiana is located on the prestigious urban campus of Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI) and is only a 10-minute walk from downtown business, shopping and entertainment. If you are planning a short vacation in the USA and would like to include some English classes, our American Explorer Program is perfect for you. American Explorer is designed for tourists who would like to take some part-time English classes while spending their afternoons sightseeing and visiting local attractions. From the fast-paced excitement of New York City, to the relaxed lifestyle along the beautiful California coast, our great locations hold many opportunities for adventure.
The American Explorer Program consists of 12 levels of instruction from Beginning to Masters proficiency, with four weeks of instruction per level.

IELTS Testing Center
If you wish to qualify for university admission through an IELTS score, you can take the test at our location. Click here for registration information.
American Conversation Partnerships
Interested in after-class conversation and friendship with an American student? Inquire after your arrival and we can arrange time with a native speaker.
College Class Visits and Auditing
ELS Intensive students (in key levels) can visit one or more college classes, depending on professor approval.
Scholarships/Discounts
After completion of the full ELS Intensive English Program qualified students may receive credit for ELS and/or tuition discounts at select host universities and colleges, once they matriculate.
Concurrent Enrollment at Host College
ELS students who have received conditional acceptance from the host college/university may have the chance to attend one or more individual college courses (for credit) while still studying in the Intensive English Program or Fast Track Program.

Center Staff
Kim Bassler
Center Director: Kim is a native of Indiana. She has worked for ELS Language Centers in Indianapolis for over eighteen years. Kim studied Education at Indiana University and began teaching English at ELS Language Center shortly thereafter. She also has traveled and studied in other parts of the world. “I enjoy traveling to a new place, meeting new people and learning about other cultures. The best part of my job is that now I can do all of that right here at ELS!” Kim welcomes international students with Hoosier hospitality to cultural and sporting activities taking place in downtown Indianapolis. ELS in Indianapolis is located on the campus of IUPUI, and Kim is happy to talk with you about their 200 undergraduate, graduate, and PhD degree programs.
Gwen Cooper
Academic Director: Gwen is from France. Before coming to the US, she studied International Business and Applied Foreign Languages. She has now been living in the US for over 7 years and during this time completed a degree in Education at Shenandoah University in Virginia. In March 2006, Gwen became a United States citizen. This experience, along with her training and with being a former international student, has enabled her to become familiar with the educational needs of international students.
Jeremy Mast
International Student Advisor: Jeremy is also from Indiana. After completing a degree in English literature at Indiana University in Bloomington, Jeremy went on to get his master’s degree in TESOL/Applied Linguistics, also at IU. Since then, he has taught English in Ecuador, at Indiana State University, and in Chile. While in Chile, he was also the coordinator of a project called The American Corner. Now at ELS, Jeremy assists students with university applications and student visa questions and occasionally teaches a class.
Janeth Vieira
Registrar: Janeth is from Colombia. She is an Attorney in Law in her home country and worked for the State Auditor. She has worked as a bookkeeper in Miami and she has assisted Spanish speakers with tax documents since moving from Florida to Indianapolis. Janeth manages student tuition, housing payments and bill paying. Janeth enjoys getting to know everyone.
