Our ELS Language Center in Ruston, Louisiana is located on the beautiful campus of Louisiana Tech University (LA Tech). LA Tech has a diverse student population of more than 11,000, representing 70 countries from around the world. With its mild climate, Ruston is in the heart of the Sportsman's Paradise region of the state where people enjoy fishing, water skiing, historical landmarks, Cajun culture, and innumerable festivals. Students at ELS/Ruston can enjoy weekend visits to Shreveport and New Orleans, Louisiana; Dallas, Texas; and Hot Springs and Little Rock, Arkansas.

If you are planning a short vacation in the USA and would like to include some English classes, our American Explorer Program is perfect for you. American Explorer is designed for tourists who would like to take some part-time English classes while spending their afternoons sightseeing and visiting local attractions. From the fast-paced excitement of New York City, to the relaxed lifestyle along the beautiful California coast, our great locations hold many opportunities for adventure.
The American Explorer Program consists of 12 levels of instruction from Beginning to Masters proficiency, with four weeks of instruction per level.

Interested in after-class conversation and friendship with an American student? Inquire after your arrival and we can arrange time with a native speaker.
Contact America! Program
Through regularly organized activities you can practice English both in and out of the classroom with native guest speakers or American students discussing various topics.
Music, Voice or Dance Lessons
We can arrange for students to take musical instrument, voice or dance lessons with faculty or qualified students.
College Class Visits and Auditing
ELS Intensive students (in key levels) can visit one or more college classes, depending on professor approval.
Scholarships/Discounts
After completion of the full ELS Intensive English Program qualified students may receive credit for ELS and/or tuition discounts at select host universities and colleges, once they matriculate.
Access to Campus Facilities/Services
ELS students may use many of the facilities at our host college/university for free (or low cost) during their studies. Available facilities may vary, but usually include a fitness center, swimming pool, campus library, tennis court, and more.
Concurrent Enrollment at Host College
ELS students who have received conditional acceptance from the host college/university may have the chance to attend one or more individual college courses (for credit) while still studying in the Intensive English Program or Fast Track Program.

Center Staff
Rebecca Guler
Rebecca, known as Becca, is the Center Director of ELS Ruston. She is part of a bilingual family with her husband and 2 year-old son. Rebecca spent 2 semesters teaching ESL in Bangalore, India during college, and 3 years teaching in Ankara, Turkey. She has been with ELS Ruston since September 2005, first as instructor and later as administrative staff member. She has presented at state and national TESOL. Becca welcomes you to ELS Ruston and our Southern hospitality.
John Hensley
Mr. Hensley has taught in various schools and institutions in Louisiana since 1985. He has also traveled to Honduras and gained experience teaching in a foreign language. He has been a speaker at Louisiana TESOL. He presently serves as an instructor, Assistant Academic Director, and ETS TOEFL Center supervisor at ELS in Ruston, Louisiana. He believes that education is a major key to success, and the classroom is a place where learning is intense, yet the atmosphere should be enjoyable!
Karen Lewis
I began teaching ESL in the Peace Corps in Guatemala and then later in the ELS Center in Norman, Oklahoma. From 1976 until 1992 I taught in the ESL program at Louisiana Tech University, and now again I'm teaching at the ELS Center in Ruston, Louisiana. From 198-91 I was Vice-President and then President of LaTESOL (Louisiana Teachers of English to Speakers of Other Languages).
