What is Conditional Admission?

Institutions in the ELS University Conditional Admission Network offer conditional admission to students who are academically admissible based on the student’s academic record and other university and/or departmental and program requirements, but who have not yet demonstrated English proficiency. Your admission is “conditional” based upon satisfying English proficiency through completion of a specified level of the ELS English for Academic Purposes program and any other specific requirements prior to full admission. Once these requirements are fulfilled, you are able to fully matriculate. These requirements will be outlined on your Conditional Letter of Admission, and your selected ELS center will assist you in completing all of the necessary requirements for matriculation.

Additional matriculation requirements may include other required scores, for example, GMAT® or GRE® for graduate programs.

Our ELS University Partners will offer a Conditional Letter of Admission (CLA) detailing the additional requirements needed for matriculation. You and your family can be assured that you have a university placement and ELS registration prior to departing for the USA.

What is the Conditional Admission Process?

  1. Find a university via our University Finder
  2. Apply for university admission and enroll for English studies at ELS Language Centers with help from a local ELS authorized Counseling Agent.
  3. If you are an acceptable candidate for university admission, you receive a letter of "Conditional university admission subject to English proficiency and submission of any other required documentation for matriculation."
  4. Study at any of the 60 ELS Centers in the USA to fulfill the university entrance requirement for English proficiency.
  5. Begin your university program!

Hello! I am Jose Ivan Mantilla. I am from Colombia and I study English in Cleveland. ELS in Cleveland is the best place to learn English because of four things: teachers, students, city and Case Western Reserve University.

First, the teachers in ELS are a group of professionals skilled and experienced in the English language. Also, they are always mindful of all learning processes in speaking, listening, writing and grammar.

Second, the students at ELS are from very different countries in the world. This is very amazing because you can learn about different countries in the world. For example, here you can find students from Saudi Arabia, Japan, Korea, Colombia, Mexico and France. In addition, all students are very friendly with all people in ELS.

Third, the city is very nice because the people here are very friendly with the people of others countries, and you can find diversity of many things to do.

Finally, Case Western Reserve University is a good place to practice your English in a place with many different types of students. For example, you can talk with students who study engineering, business and art. Also, you can practice different types of sports: soccer, basketball, volleyball and baseball.

In conclusion, come here to Cleveland and be a part of this big family.

Hi! My name is Yudai Yamamoto. I'm from Japan. By next weekend, I will have studied English in Cleveland for 1 month. ELS Language Centers in Cleveland, Ohio is a very good place to study English because of three reasons. First, our teachers are very kind and good at teaching English. Learning English in the USA is very difficult for students studying abroad. Sometimes we can’t understand what our teachers said. If you can’t understand them in your class, you can ask them anytime. Our teachers teach us very clearly. Second, I think Cleveland is the best place in America. One day, I got lost. I was very confused, because that was only my third day in America. I didn’t know where I should go. But many people helped me! They helped me search how to get to my house, and then I could go back home. Third, we can make a lot of friend at ELS. My friends are from Saudi Arabia, Korea, China and Colombia. We have the same goal: to improve our English skills. We always encourage each other. We can concentrate on our studies. Sometimes we teach each other about our country's culture, like religions and languages. It’s very fresh for me. Now I’m very comfortable, because I have many good teachers and many good friends. My decision was not wrong. It was the greatest choice, I think, and I have a wonderful time here. If you decide to learn English in America, I really recommend ELS Language Centers in Cleveland.

Do you want to experience real English? Are you hesitating about what school you should choose for improving English? If so, the answer to those questions is ELS in Cleveland, Ohio. I have studied English at ELS in Cleveland for about 10 months. Before I chose this center as a study place for 1 year, I also thought of a lot of possible choices and considered about it over and over as you may do the same. My decision was not wrong; it was the greatest choice ever. Why? First reason is the location. Cleveland center is located in a clam and peaceful city, Cleveland, in Ohio. The campus where ELS is situated is surrounded by fabulous nature and a lot of well-known cultural places such as the Cleveland Museum of Art and the Cleveland Museum of Natural History. You will be able to improve your English skill at ELS as well as with the famous museums through visual learning. In addition, you can get together with native students who go to the host university, Case Western Reserve University, and make a variety of friends either at the ELS school, or around the university campus. What I think the best thing the Cleveland center has is the people's kindness. Not only are all the teachers kind, thoughtful and generous, but the staff working in the offices always take care of students and give warm hands to help them not get in trouble with unfamiliar American life. When it comes to teachers and curriculum of ELS, both of them are well harmonized with professional abilities of teachers and helpful textbooks. Especially, long experienced teachers always encourage students to keep on the track of studying English and cheer them up through constant feedback. As a matter of fact, I am not perfect at English right now, and still need to improve, but I have gotten so much confidence and I will be able to continue to study English based on teaching of ELS. If you start studying with ELS Cleveland, I am 100% sure you will be fully satisfied with your choice and you will overcome the fear of learning a foreign language. ELS Cleveland is the key which introduces you to a new world and enables you to achieve your goal more easily.

I would like to say that I like ELS Cleveland and enjoy spending my time to learn English here. ELS has a very friendly environment and the teachers are very patient and always available to answer questions. In particular, they give you enough time to understand your mistakes. All in all, they are very professional in teaching English and helping you to do your
best. Also, I like the location of ELS Cleveland because it is in the center of Case Western Reserve University campus and it makes it easier to meet students to practice English with
native speakers. I am sure that ELS is the best place for anybody who dreams to learn English and discover American culture.

The most important reason why I came to ELS/Cleveland is to improve my English. They can give you systematical teaching and tutoring. The teachers and administrators are friendly and patient and help you out of problems. They are all helpful and obliging. In fact, ELS is not only a place to learn a second language, but also a place to learn about other countries' cultures. This is a cross-cultural center, because people are from different countries. So we can extend our social circle with different foreign friends. I believe
ELS/Cleveland is the best choice for you!

The beginning of my new life started last summer in Cleveland, Ohio. I attended the ELS Center Cleveland for 8 months because I was a foreign student and I wanted to have new experiences, friends, and information about American's culture. I wanted to improve my English because I know that this language is necessary not only for my future job, but also for better welfare. I was really surprised and happy because the ELS center in Cleveland offers many interesting and useful opportunities which I received from classes such as: Structure and Speaking Practice, Reading and Writing, Language Technology Studies, and other special classes, for example, Advanced Grammar, Listening, or Vocabulary, TOEFL Preparation, Creative Writing, Touchy Situations, or Writers' Workshop, and many others. These diverse and colorful selections helped me in many areas of improving English. I have very good relationship with the staff in this center. The teachers and administrators are friendly, helpful, and supportive. Thanks to them I have better opportunities for my future since I have attended the ELS center Cleveland.

The ELS center in Cleveland provides English courses which are very beneficial to me. I can practice everyday and academic conversations, learn vocabulary and how to interact with English speakers and this prepares me for more advanced work. I can explore U. S. culture and customs by visiting museums and cultural attractions in Cleveland. It allows me to reach my language learning goals quickly; also, I have the opportunity to practice English not only in the classroom, but also through social activities. I feel that this additional study at ELS in Cleveland will make me better prepared to succeed in the undergraduate courses. Come to learn English at the ELS center in Cleveland. It is your best choice!

English is a common and worldwide language like “Music.” By using English we can share several experiences with each other. Teachers in this ELS center are essential for me to become an English speaker. Not only in class but also after school, they are willing to teach us English. Because the teachers give us several topics to discuss in class, I could get interested in American and other countries' culture, education and religion. And also, this ELS center provides us with lots of fun events including apple picking, watching basketball and baseball, ski and snow boarding and shopping and so on. This ELS center is located in Case Western Reverse University, therefore we have many academic opportunities here. In my case, I belong to a laboratory as a voluntary researcher. I am very lucky to be with teachers here. Good luck for your English and experience!
