What is Conditional Admission?

Institutions in the ELS University Conditional Admission Network offer conditional admission to students who are academically admissible based on the student’s academic record and other university and/or departmental and program requirements, but who have not yet demonstrated English proficiency. Your admission is “conditional” based upon satisfying English proficiency through completion of a specified level of the ELS English for Academic Purposes program and any other specific requirements prior to full admission. Once these requirements are fulfilled, you are able to fully matriculate. These requirements will be outlined on your Conditional Letter of Admission, and your selected ELS center will assist you in completing all of the necessary requirements for matriculation.

Additional matriculation requirements may include other required scores, for example, GMAT® or GRE® for graduate programs.

Our ELS University Partners will offer a Conditional Letter of Admission (CLA) detailing the additional requirements needed for matriculation. You and your family can be assured that you have a university placement and ELS registration prior to departing for the USA.

What is the Conditional Admission Process?

  1. Find a university via our University Finder
  2. Apply for university admission and enroll for English studies at ELS Language Centers with help from a local ELS authorized Counseling Agent.
  3. If you are an acceptable candidate for university admission, you receive a letter of "Conditional university admission subject to English proficiency and submission of any other required documentation for matriculation."
  4. Study at any of the 60 ELS Centers in the USA to fulfill the university entrance requirement for English proficiency.
  5. Begin your university program!

When I came to ELS Silicon Valley, I just wanted to improve my English, but I got more than that. I found a place where I
could feel like at home, because everybody is kind and helpful and they do whatever they can to help you. This was a great experience, I improved my writing and oral English, but at the same time, ELS provided me the opportunity to meet people from other countries and they organize a lot of
interesting activities in which you can enrich your time and yourself.

I have a 10 year old daughter and they made everything easy for
me to study and at the same time I could take care of her. They were kind and nice with her too and I really appreciate that.

The teachers and the administrative staff are excellent, they
really care about the students to participate and strive to improve their level of English, and they give you the support to solve any problem that you could have.

I was very sad when I left the English Center and if I have
to choose a place to study English again, it will be ELS Silicon Valley.

I recommend it 100%.

I have studied at ELS language centers, Silicon Valley for 7
months. It was one of the most amazing experiences I have ever had in my life. Everyone there, from students to staff, is so friendly. ELS prepared me for university very well, especially the Master classes they offer. At ELS, you'll always find the help you need because they have a great group of very experienced, professional, and also funny teachers and staff. If you want to improve your English at a quick base, I totally suggest that you go to ELS.

Before I came to the US, my English skills were pretty limited; I had some difficulties to understand academic paper or even some specialized news papers. Moreover, I was not able to speak fluently, which affected my interaction with English speakers. When I joined ELS Silicon Valley, however, I discovered a whole new world. My teachers and the school staff were great and friendly; they made things easier for me and helped to adapt to the new environment.

ELS is for me more than an English school; it has taught me persistence and confidence. Before I was a shy man, now I am a man ready to conquer. I am thankful I chose that school because it has unlocked my latent potential. I still have a lot to learn, a long way to go, yet ELS has equipped with the ultimate weapon to succeed: persistence.

ELS helped me with my English academic skills. Since I have been here, I have improved not only my writing, but also my oral English. Besides, ELS English Center provides me a great opportunity to meet more people from all over the world. Also, the activities here organized by ELS are really interesting and these activities helped enrich my life after school. Studying in ELS helped me adjust to America’s life and experience the new life different from the one I had before. Moreover, the teachers and staffs are so nice and helpful. They are very considerate and patient. ELS makes itself a home I would like to call.

Last but not least, graduating from ELS helped me be well prepared to study in De Anza College and helped me prepare all the transfer issues made for me to study in De Anza and experience another new life as well.

I like the activities the most. All of the activities helped me improve my communication skills. It is good for my future studies. There are many opportunities to speak English with other students and to learn other cultures. Like we went to Japantown and learned culture about Japanese. And you can find Chinese festivals in there. Some activities also help you with life, like open the bank. The banker will come to ELS to come open the bank. Good for me to get used to the American life.
