What is Conditional Admission?
Institutions in the ELS University Conditional Admission Network offer conditional admission to students who are academically admissible based on the student’s academic record and other university and/or departmental and program requirements, but who have not yet demonstrated English proficiency. Your admission is “conditional” based upon satisfying English proficiency through completion of a specified level of the ELS English for Academic Purposes program and any other specific requirements prior to full admission. Once these requirements are fulfilled, you are able to fully matriculate. These requirements will be outlined on your Conditional Letter of Admission, and your selected ELS center will assist you in completing all of the necessary requirements for matriculation.
Additional matriculation requirements may include other required scores, for example, GMAT® or GRE® for graduate programs.
Our ELS University Partners will offer a Conditional Letter of Admission (CLA) detailing the additional requirements needed for matriculation. You and your family can be assured that you have a university placement and ELS registration prior to departing for the USA.
What is the Conditional Admission Process?
- Find a university via our University Finder
- Apply for university admission and enroll for English studies at ELS Language Centers with help from a local ELS authorized Counseling Agent.
- If you are an acceptable candidate for university admission, you receive a letter of "Conditional university admission subject to English proficiency and submission of any other required documentation for matriculation."
- Study at any of the 60 ELS Centers in the USA to fulfill the university entrance requirement for English proficiency.
- Begin your university program!

My name is Mohammed and I am from Saudi Arabia. I have been studying in ELS for 1 year and what I like most is making friends from different countries and learning various cultures. I personally have made many friends and had a good time with them.
Studying in ELS is not just useful, but also enjoyable. I truly appreciate the chance to be in ELS and learn English as a second language.

Are you considering studying English in USA? Trust me, ELS must be your best choice!
I am from China and have been in ELS Clear Lake for 3 month. I am enjoying studying and stay here so much! I never thought it's so funny and easy to study English, even though it is English grammar! The Academic Director and all the teachers in ELS are professional! The Academic Director will arrange you in a perfect class, then you will find all of your teachers know your weakness quite well and will encourage you to improve it instead of just pointing them out. More important, the classes are very interesting, you will never feel bored! You know I am always wondering how the classes have finished so quickly!
Besides study, we have a lot of activities here in every session to make our leisure time fun. The Advisor organizes them quite well. She always gives us a lot of surprises!
Have some problems for your study or living? So easy! Just ask for help! You may ask the Academic Director or teachers for study problems and the Advisor, Registrar, or Center Director for living problems. They are more than happy to help you!
Come, friends! Be a member of our big ELS family!

First of all, I chose University Forest Apartments because it's near to ELS. When I arrived there, I was very well received. It's a clean place. I am enjoying the swimming pool and the volleyball court a lot. Furthermore, the people who live there are very nice with international students. The apartment is very comfortable, and has all the furniture that I need. I am really happy living in University Forest.

Since ELS provides students with a great opportunity of pathways to universities, I took this chance. Not only about a university, but American culture, attitude and lifestyle are what really matters here. I have many friends who have different perspectives and they really light up all classes. Honestly, I love every teacher here. They are patient in teaching people who don't speak English to speak it perfectly. There is no need to be embarrassed of your English because at ELS they are here to help and improve your English.

The environment of University Forest Apartments is beautiful and secluded. The security is good at UFA. They have regular patrols. People who live here are friendly.

I studied at ELS for a month and I found a lot of people to start a friendship with. Although a month is not a long period I must say that it was very helpful to improve my English. My host family was very nice, and that made practicing English easier. It was really nice watching the Olympics together with my host family. ELS and the family events make the "studying life" more enjoyable.

I am a graduate student studying in University of Houston–Clear Lake. I studied in ELS for 4 sessions. It was an amazing experience. The coolest thing for me in ELS was that I could study English from excellent teachers and meet new friends from all over the world at the same time. We were like a big family chasing a same dream together.
I would like to thank all the teachers and staffs in ELS Houston- Clear Lake. You helped me a lot to prepare for my further study in an American university. I never felt panicked when I found out I have so many papers and presentations to do on my first semester in university, because ELS already taught me how to write an academic paper and how to do a presentation, and we actually practiced a lot every session.
Welcome to ELS Houston- Clear Lake, it is a great place to study English. I wish to see you here.

We come from Thailand. We study English at ELS to learn English for the TOEFL exam and college in America. At ELS we can study English, learn about American culture, and enjoy travel and attractions.
There are many activities. For example, we went to see a Houston Astros baseball game, a Houston Dynamos soccer game, and visited Space Center Houston. These activities are very fun and we can practice the English language with native Americans.
ELS provides extra classes for students who want to study more. The teachers and staff are very good and very nice. They have many technical skills to teach students. They are good guides and help with everything. The teachers give homework but this helps with our discipline skills.
ELS can help you who want to get more English skills.

I will start by saying that the experiences are measured by how much you live and what you have learned in the process.
I am Nina Martinez from Colombia; I am a former student from the ELS- Language Center located in Clear Lake- Houston, Texas. Not only achieved my goal of learning English as a second language, but also have met a lot of wonderful people who made my experience in the U.S.A, the best memories of my life.
ELS gave me the opportunity to see how English language can be applied to my life and the world around me and how it relates and is used by different cultures across the world.
My Homestay Family provided to me by ELS welcomed me and supported me and gave me the love and support I needed to help me to adapt to the American way of life.
I would now like to take the time to thank all the teachers for their hard work and dedication to helping us learn the English Language and to thank them for their successful approach to teaching.
I loved everything in ELS, its activities, teachers, facilities and people. I am a lucky girl to have studied here. I invite everyone from Colombia or from different countries around the world to come to ELS and live the greatest experiences of your life.
You do not be disappointed, I guarantee you.
