Homestays in the area(Homestay)

Some homestay families are walking distance to the campus (2 miles or less). Families that are further away may require a bus ride. In some cases, host families may provide transportation, although not required. Home types vary, but in general, ELS host families live in safe neighborhoods near the Center. ELS students will be assigned single rooms, some with shared bathrooms. All homes have air conditioning, and wireless internet. ELS students will have access to kitchen and laundry areas in the home. Some homes provide students with a private studio style room outside of the main house. These can be reserved with an advance request.

ELS students live in 3 five-bedroom / two-bath suites, either all male or all female. The rooms are air-conditioned suites.There is a large central room.
Each bedroom is equipped with 2 beds, 2 desks, 2 chairs, and 2 dressers. The rooms are equipped with wireless internet and cable for television.
There is easy access to an on-campus laundry room. The students share the bathroom facilities with 2 other students in the adjoining room. ELS provides bed sheets, a pillow, a blanket, and towels.

Capri Gardens(Student Residence (Off Campus))

Capri Garden Apartments is a mid-size, gated, apartment complex 5 blocks north from the Barry University campus. These apartments provide an independent, private living style for students who are more mature. You will have a short, 15-minute walk to campus. The apartments are fully furnished including wireless internet and cable TV. Each apartment has ceramic tiled living areas, a full eat-in kitchen, a large, bright living room with a dining area, 2 bedrooms and 2 full bathrooms. Students may choose to have a single room with a private bath or a shared room with a shared bath.
Kitchens are equipped with a dishwasher, stove, microwave and full refrigerator. All plates, silverware, pots and pans, etc. are supplied. On-site laundry facilities are available for a small fee/load. Capri Gardens has a large swimming pool and several tennis courts available for the students to use. Student bedrooms are equipped with personal desks and chairs, dressers and all bed linens and towels.

What is Conditional Admission?

Institutions in the ELS University Conditional Admission Network offer conditional admission to students who are academically admissible based on the student’s academic record and other university and/or departmental and program requirements, but who have not yet demonstrated English proficiency. Your admission is “conditional” based upon satisfying English proficiency through completion of a specified level of the ELS English for Academic Purposes program and any other specific requirements prior to full admission. Once these requirements are fulfilled, you are able to fully matriculate. These requirements will be outlined on your Conditional Letter of Admission, and your selected ELS center will assist you in completing all of the necessary requirements for matriculation.

Additional matriculation requirements may include other required scores, for example, GMAT® or GRE® for graduate programs.

Our ELS University Partners will offer a Conditional Letter of Admission (CLA) detailing the additional requirements needed for matriculation. You and your family can be assured that you have a university placement and ELS registration prior to departing for the USA.

What is the Conditional Admission Process?

  1. Find a university via our University Finder
  2. Apply for university admission and enroll for English studies at ELS Language Centers with help from a local ELS authorized Counseling Agent.
  3. If you are an acceptable candidate for university admission, you receive a letter of "Conditional university admission subject to English proficiency and submission of any other required documentation for matriculation."
  4. Study at any of the 60 ELS Centers in the USA to fulfill the university entrance requirement for English proficiency.
  5. Begin your university program!

Hi, my name is Cleyton Kano, I'm from São Paulo, Brazil. I went in December of 2009 and studied until Beginning of 2010. I stayed there just a month, and studied at level 7. And everything in Miami was so amazing. I had the great opportunity to live the Christmas season, through Christmas Carol, that was awesome. And lots of experience I could learn during this trip. And also, I made some new friends that will last forever. The institution presents excellent teachers with lots of experience and dynamic methods that makes it easier to learn. Thus I could improve all four essential skills to an effective communication: the audition comprehension, reading, speaking and written. Remember, a foreign experience is something that makes a difference as professional, personal and academic. And if you want to study abroad, you can trust in ELS, they are very organized and take care of many things. So good luck and don't forget, enjoy the maximum of each moment, each experience and you must be disciplined in studies and do your best. And thanks to all my friends that I made at ELS. My name is Eriko Shimazu. I am from Japan. When I came here I was in level 5; now I am in level 9. Now I am very independent, I can express mysel. I have learned lots of information from people from other countries. I am very happy with the classes; my teachers make sure our grammar is clear. In Japan, I learned English, now I know English. The classes are serious, fun, and exciting.
