What is Conditional Admission?

Institutions in the ELS University Conditional Admission Network offer conditional admission to students who are academically admissible based on the student’s academic record and other university and/or departmental and program requirements, but who have not yet demonstrated English proficiency. Your admission is “conditional” based upon satisfying English proficiency through completion of a specified level of the ELS English for Academic Purposes program and any other specific requirements prior to full admission. Once these requirements are fulfilled, you are able to fully matriculate. These requirements will be outlined on your Conditional Letter of Admission, and your selected ELS center will assist you in completing all of the necessary requirements for matriculation.

Additional matriculation requirements may include other required scores, for example, GMAT® or GRE® for graduate programs.

Our ELS University Partners will offer a Conditional Letter of Admission (CLA) detailing the additional requirements needed for matriculation. You and your family can be assured that you have a university placement and ELS registration prior to departing for the USA.

What is the Conditional Admission Process?

  1. Find a university via our University Finder
  2. Apply for university admission and enroll for English studies at ELS Language Centers with help from a local ELS authorized Counseling Agent.
  3. If you are an acceptable candidate for university admission, you receive a letter of "Conditional university admission subject to English proficiency and submission of any other required documentation for matriculation."
  4. Study at any of the 60 ELS Centers in the USA to fulfill the university entrance requirement for English proficiency.
  5. Begin your university program!

I have taught English in places that are unknown to many people. While studying for my bachelor’s degree in English at Oklahoma Baptist University, I spent a year teaching at XinJiang University in Urumqi, China. After completing my degree, I studied for my master’s at Oklahoma State University. When I finished my degree, I started teaching ESL here in Oklahoma. A few years later, my family and I moved to Almaty, Kazakhstan where I taught English at a university. I traveled to much of Central Asia including my first Asian home, Urumqi. Returning to the US, I am serving both students and teachers at ELS. I enjoy spending time with my wife and two boys, reading philosophy, meeting people from all over the world, and taking every opportunity to travel.

International Student Advisor

I graduated from Oklahoma State University in 2010 with a Degree in Child & Family Services. During my time in college I spent a semester studying on the little Island of Malta and had the opportunity to travel to a variety of countries in Asia, Europe, and the Middle East. I love being around people from other cultures and after being an international student at one time, I realize the need for help when studying abroad. My position at ELS is giving me an opportunity to do both!

I chose Oklahoma City because I think it was the perfect
city to discover the southern culture. I
want to go where no one goes, in an uncommon place to study. Oklahoma City is a calm city, it’s not
crowded because it’s a country-side city.
I came here for the experience abroad, meet some international people,
and improve my English skills. There are
a lot of opportunities in the university because there is a library, gym, and cafeteria. It’s a small school, I like that because you
can know all the students and teachers.
My homestay has been a perfect experience because they take me everywhere
they go. I am emerged in the American culture
so that I can meet some wonderful American citizens and discover some nice
places in Oklahoma. When I finish my
studies I will go back to Switzerland to go to university.

June 8, 2015

I came to OKC because it’s a quiet city and it’s a good city to
study. I choose ELS because I had
cousins here and I read about their program.
It’s a good program because I won’t feel bored. Every session I will have new teachers and
new classes. I want to study in the
university and when I graduate from ELS there are more than 500 university that
can accept me. The office will help me
with the admission acceptance.

June 8, 2015

I came to Oklahoma because my aunt lives here. I really like the weather here and there is a
lot of green here. I don’t really like a
big city that’s so noisy. I like the
country side, so here I feel relaxed. I really really like here because there
is a lot of another countries people, the more I talk to them the more I learn
their culture. It is interesting because
they have another culture, they make me interested and funny every day. In here there is a lot of good and nice
teachers. I hope to stay here a long a
time. When I finish English I plan to go
to university here in U.S. I plan to study about design, either graphic or
interior. If someone wants to study
English I really recommend to come here to study!

June 8, 2015

I cannot find a better language situation in this city because I have more chances to communicate with other people. I think OKC is the most worthy city for me to study so I chose Oklahoma City University and ELS/Oklahoma City. There is also delicious food here! After I graduate I will study in here, in OCU, in the master degree of TESOL. I want to try to study English education. The best one point of here is that as a Chinese we always pay more attention to reading and vocabulary. But when I look back at something I wrote one year ago after I study English it looks so weird because now I know more words and how to finish the sentence. There we don’t know how to speak, talk and communicate. I think listening and speaking is like water and sugar. It’s really important for your body and ELS helped me with that.

I had done some research about Oklahoma before I came and
decided it would be a great state to live in.
The cost of living in Oklahoma City is reasonable and I think you can
have a great lifestyle. Also the people
here are really friendly and helpful with any questions you have. What I like about ELS is the location and
teachers. My teachers are great along
with their teaching. Also ELS has many
activities which makes the school more loveable. After I graduate from ELS I plan to study
here in the state of Oklahoma because I’m familiar with everything and I’m too
comfortable to leave it.

Jamil Enani

September 18, 2014

Jamil just graduated from level 112 at ELS!

"After I graduated with my Bachelor’s degree in Engineering,
one of the biggest companies in Saudi Arabia called me to have an interview with them. I was happy and excited to
get a job! While we were having the interview, I answered all of the questions perfectly in Arabic. They were very happy and my
smile was getting bigger and bigger! …Until he said “now speak English”. I knew at that time I was in trouble…I said “no
English”, he said “Sorry, you are an Engineer, you must speak English…we cannot accept you”. So I came to the United
States, to ELS in Oklahoma to learn English.
Now, finally, I am an Engineer who speaks English very well!"

Oklahoma. ELS has the best teachers and
