What is Conditional Admission?
Institutions in the ELS University Conditional Admission Network offer conditional admission to students who are academically admissible based on the student’s academic record and other university and/or departmental and program requirements, but who have not yet demonstrated English proficiency. Your admission is “conditional” based upon satisfying English proficiency through completion of a specified level of the ELS English for Academic Purposes program and any other specific requirements prior to full admission. Once these requirements are fulfilled, you are able to fully matriculate. These requirements will be outlined on your Conditional Letter of Admission, and your selected ELS center will assist you in completing all of the necessary requirements for matriculation.
Additional matriculation requirements may include other required scores, for example, GMAT® or GRE® for graduate programs.
Our ELS University Partners will offer a Conditional Letter of Admission (CLA) detailing the additional requirements needed for matriculation. You and your family can be assured that you have a university placement and ELS registration prior to departing for the USA.
What is the Conditional Admission Process?
- Find a university via our University Finder
- Apply for university admission and enroll for English studies at ELS Language Centers with help from a local ELS authorized Counseling Agent.
- If you are an acceptable candidate for university admission, you receive a letter of "Conditional university admission subject to English proficiency and submission of any other required documentation for matriculation."
- Study at any of the 60 ELS Centers in the USA to fulfill the university entrance requirement for English proficiency.
- Begin your university program!

What we like in ELS La Verne was the friendliness of all who comprise it. La Verne is a quiet and safe city with friendly people. Teachers explain and give you examples to better understand. We learn more English, meet people from other countries, know the culture from other country, and the class are only in
English. Host family had many kindness even though we did not know English. What we like most were the classrooms, they are very equipped for a thoroughly enjoyable class. We will miss teachers who gave lessons, the English class, and our friends from other countries.

This is one of the best experiences I have ever had! Never have I been so happy in school. I really like the way the teachers give classes and also the infrastructure of the classrooms, it helps you a lot to be motivated while studying in ELS. La Verne is such a beautiful and quiet city, you can enjoy different kind of food, and you can do a lot of different activities in or around the city/campus. I always went to the conversation club and activities done by ELS like the trip to Olvera Street or Universal Studios. I think I took part in all activities in calendar, because these kind of activities are good to improve our English and also to meet new people and learn about different cultures. I learned new rules of grammar, I learned a lot of vocabulary and I improved my speaking at school. Living with an American family gave me the opportunity to improve my listening skills and speaking abilities too!

“The reason I came here was to start my dream to become a musical actress. I made a lot of friends at ELS La Verne. They made me happy, inspired, and motivated. I saw them make an effort everyday. My English class was awesome. They were always positive. While at ELS La Verne, I got to practice my skills and sing a lot. I got a lot of opportunities that I would not get in Japan. One thing I want every future student to know is that everything is for a reason and to stay positive. If you have a goal you will stand out.”

Hello, I am Renzo Figallo from Peru. I studied at ELS for three months and I was also a student worker in the office. The office staff, teachers and the students from all parts of the world all became my friends. I was in the intensive program and I think that my English improved greatly. The teachers gave me tools to better my English and always helped me to understand.
I definitely recommend ELS. You will not regret it.
March 13, 2012
Hi ELS friends,
My name is Faii from Thailand. I was an ELS student in the semi-intensive program. I really did have a great time being a part of ELS family. With abundance of help from all ELS instructors and friendly staff members, it was worthwhile being here. I found ELS programs are greatly enriched with both academic and non-academic activities that encourage students to practice English inside and outside of classroom. Besides learning in class, practicing my speaking skill with the staff members is one of the most enjoyable things for me ever! The advantage of being here is that not only did I enjoy learning American culture, but also the wide range of cultural experiences by getting to know people from many different countries. Above all, I was impressed by the fact that every international student here, despite the diverse in nationalities and cultures, shares the same goal --- the goal of being good at English. Therefore, the most effective way we are all trying our best to do is taking this chance to communicate in English as much as we can. If you dream of learning English in the US, ELS is certainly the right place for you. Definitely, you will not regret being here.

Hi, I’m Meltem. I’m from Turkey. I came to La Verne in January, 2011. This term my level is 107. When I got here, I was a little bit scared and I had not idea about the life in La Verne. The office workers and instructors really helped me to get used to La Verne. ELS\La Verne is a good location because it is near the University of La Verne, so you can use the library and the gym and also participate in the activities at the university. La Verne is not a hectic town, it is safe and peaceful. The city of La Verne is close to downtown LA and Hollywood. I highly recommend ELS La Verne you will have fun and learn English at the same time.
