ELS/Rochester at the State University of New York at Brockport - Start Your Journey With Us! <br/>Located just west of the city of Rochester and south of beautiful Lake Ontario, the village of Brockport boasts a pedestrian friendly downtown of small shops, restaurants and a vintage movie theater. Homestay(Homestay)

ELS/Rochester has many excellent homestay accommodations close to the Center location.
The average commute time is currently 10 minutes by car, and in most cases, host families are willing to provide transportation, although not required.The Center's homestays are conveniently located close to the ELS Center and the College at Brockport campus. Almost all new homestay families are less than 45 minutes by public transportation.
Home types vary, but in general, ELS host families live in safe suburban and rural neighborhoods located near the Center. ELS students will be assigned single rooms, some with shared bathrooms. All homes have heating and air conditioning, along with wireless internet. ELS students will have access to kitchen and laundry areas in the home.

The college offers a variety of other living arrangements including rooms for one to four students. Most students choose to live in a double room with another student.

What is Conditional Admission?

Institutions in the ELS University Conditional Admission Network offer conditional admission to students who are academically admissible based on the student’s academic record and other university and/or departmental and program requirements, but who have not yet demonstrated English proficiency. Your admission is “conditional” based upon satisfying English proficiency through completion of a specified level of the ELS English for Academic Purposes program and any other specific requirements prior to full admission. Once these requirements are fulfilled, you are able to fully matriculate. These requirements will be outlined on your Conditional Letter of Admission, and your selected ELS center will assist you in completing all of the necessary requirements for matriculation.

Additional matriculation requirements may include other required scores, for example, GMAT® or GRE® for graduate programs.

Our ELS University Partners will offer a Conditional Letter of Admission (CLA) detailing the additional requirements needed for matriculation. You and your family can be assured that you have a university placement and ELS registration prior to departing for the USA.

What is the Conditional Admission Process?

  1. Find a university via our University Finder
  2. Apply for university admission and enroll for English studies at ELS Language Centers with help from a local ELS authorized Counseling Agent.
  3. If you are an acceptable candidate for university admission, you receive a letter of "Conditional university admission subject to English proficiency and submission of any other required documentation for matriculation."
  4. Study at any of the 60 ELS Centers in the USA to fulfill the university entrance requirement for English proficiency.
  5. Begin your university program!

Andrea C. Newman

International Student Advisor

Andrea Newman joined the ELS Rochester team in May of 2014. Andrea has worked in Higher Education since 2002 in admissions, advisement and student retention. She earned her BA in Mass Media Communication Studies and Studio Art from SUNY Geneseo and her MA in Communication Studies from The College at Brockport, State University of New York. Andrea is also an Adjunct Professor of Communication Studies. When she's not working at the ELS Center or teaching, Andrea enjoys time with her family and being outdoors... even during the cold winter months! She loves helping ELS students and supporting them as they study and experience life in the United States.

Theresa Weed

Registrar

Theresa Weed joined the ELS Rochester team as our Registrar in January 2014. Prior to working at ELS, Theresa worked as the Village of Brockport's Tax Receiver. She also spent three years on campus as the Bookkeeper in the college bookstore. Theresa is a native of the Brockport area. She is a member of the Brockport MOMS Club, and the Brockport PTSA. When she is not working, she enjoys reading, riding her bike, spending time with her husband, and chauffeuring her two teenage children around town. Theresa enjoys working with the ELS staff and students.

Welcome to Brockport

The College at Brockport is located on the Erie Canal. A multi-million dollar Recreation Center just opened last year. Our Physics and Chemistry laboratories were just renovated, and a new academic building will open in 2014. We are a dynamic campus, always improving our facilities.
