What is Conditional Admission?

Institutions in the ELS University Conditional Admission Network offer conditional admission to students who are academically admissible based on the student’s academic record and other university and/or departmental and program requirements, but who have not yet demonstrated English proficiency. Your admission is “conditional” based upon satisfying English proficiency through completion of a specified level of the ELS English for Academic Purposes program and any other specific requirements prior to full admission. Once these requirements are fulfilled, you are able to fully matriculate. These requirements will be outlined on your Conditional Letter of Admission, and your selected ELS center will assist you in completing all of the necessary requirements for matriculation.

Additional matriculation requirements may include other required scores, for example, GMAT® or GRE® for graduate programs.

Our ELS University Partners will offer a Conditional Letter of Admission (CLA) detailing the additional requirements needed for matriculation. You and your family can be assured that you have a university placement and ELS registration prior to departing for the USA.

What is the Conditional Admission Process?

  1. Find a university via our University Finder
  2. Apply for university admission and enroll for English studies at ELS Language Centers with help from a local ELS authorized Counseling Agent.
  3. If you are an acceptable candidate for university admission, you receive a letter of "Conditional university admission subject to English proficiency and submission of any other required documentation for matriculation."
  4. Study at any of the 60 ELS Centers in the USA to fulfill the university entrance requirement for English proficiency.
  5. Begin your university program!

I love all of the teachers and people at ELS Ruston.
Sometimes Americans come to ELS to talk with the students.

When I first came here, I didn’t know anything. I just said
“yes” or “no” because my English wasn’t good, but not I can understand what people say.

I have met lots of people, especially talking with Americans
helped me. What I want to say is “don’t be shy about your English, you came to study English.”

ELS Ruston gave me numerous opportunities and chances to become familiar with daily life and study on campus. This made me adapt as fast as possible to American college life. Here I met a lot of new friends from all over the world. This is a great opportunity to experience various cultures. Teachers here are all friendly and helpful. With no doubt they will try their best to help you with any difficulty you faced in your life. Most important things is my English skill, especially listening and speaking, have been greatly improved. In a word, study in ELS Ruston is the best decision that I have ever made for going to university in America. It gives me great help for both study and normal life.

ELS Ruston is one of the definitive decisions I've made for the sake of success. Living in America was not only about learning English, I learned cultures, customs, lifestyles, and more importantly the way to enter the university. I've become prepared in speaking, understanding, and perfect in writing. Studying in this institution was a huge help since, now I'm a student in a university. There are lots of things in ELS helped me to become prepared and the instructors are without a doubt the main factor.

There are many excellent teachers in the ELS of Ruston to improve our English skills. They always teach us politely when we have some questions. Also, we can have fun with students from all over the world. Experience their different cultures in the United States through English is a great time for us. In addition, they are so friendly, therefore we can be friends with each other quickly through English.

Going to Ruston to learn English was one of the best experiences that I have had in my life. The ELS program was simple but very accurate. Meeting students from USA helped me to improve my English. Suddenly, the language became easier and joyful. I found lots of friends there who assisted me to get my goal of studying engineering. I will never forget the teachers and their jokes that always made me smile and helped me to understand the American culture. I
have missed ELS because I experienced too many remarkable moments that I always smile each time that I remember.

"Life ends when you stop dreaming, hope ends when you stop believing." It has been nearly five months since I started to study in ELS, which is a place where I improved my English and also met many nice people from different countries. It helped me to adapt to the American school life gradually and game me an awesome experience in America. The day I graduated from ELS was not the end but the new beginning of my master study in the United States. Coming to ELS is a fantastic experience for me. What I get from here is not only the knowledge of English study, but also the opportunity to make friends who are from different countries. I believe I can successfully finish the study in ELS with the advanced education methods and conditions. That's why I chose here before my Master's Degree.

Thanks for having us in your home at school.
All the time we feel your cooperation. Not only did we learn a new language, but also, a new culture and new people. It's important to thank our classmates for their hospitality and " Not for teaching bad words !". Our time is up but we're going back full of knowledge. We return with a new family in E.L.S., Bolivia, China, Japan, Mexico, and K.S.A.
In our country, in our Army you will always have the doors open.
On behalf of the officers and N.C.O.'s of the Colombian Army, of the people in Colombia and especially these twelve men who are here today.
Here is a small gift and taken of appreciation for you. This is the coat of arms of the Army and the flag of Colombia.

I definitely made a right decision when attending the ELS school. At School, I learn not only English, but also American Culture. Both of them are very important for anyone who wants to study in American. Specially, ELS teachers who are friendly to students have helped me a lot even though I graduated. Personally, I love the English Master program so much although at first I felt embarrass just a little bit. Shortly after that, I enjoy studying with that program. That pushed me both speak and write a lot. I have missed my teachers and friends there.

First of all, I appreciate ELS giving me an opportunity to show my experience.
I am an ordinary person, I am not the emperor or empress. I am Chinese. My hometown is a nice place, Chongqing. Women are beautiful, men are handsome. Also, we all know that China is a wonderful place.
Last year, my parents asked me to study in the US. At that time, I can not speak English, except some simple words, like “thank you” “goodbye” “aha”. Therefore, I came to ELS for my poor English skills. Now, I have become a master student, and my level is 111.
One day, my friend told me that I should take the TOEFL test. By the way, he is a crazy guy, he got a high score in the test, 116. So, I did some practice for the TOEFL test. I also took it six times, but I failed. However, I never give it up. At ELS, I learned many English skills. Although my speaking is not very good, I have dare to talk with Americans, I have dare to show my errors. In addition, I did not care about what I am in the opinion of others as to what I am myself.
I have an important thing want to share with others, my teachers. ELS center in Ruston has some good teachers. When I was get into trouble in English, they help me a lot. In a word, ELS has a perfect system for students. Also, ELS has an ideal arrangement to improve English skills. I plan to
study my major at Tech University at present. In the future, I wish my parent would be proud of me.
Thanks for teaching at ELS.

I love the life here in Ruston every day. I had a great time in ELS Ruston and I really appreciate daily life here and all of my teachers here. I had a fantastic time during that corn maze day. First, I love Ruston. Ruston is a small college city which has a great community to experience American country life. There are lakes to swim in, fish, and camp, and farms to ride horses. Also it is not expensive to live here compared with other big cities. ELS in Ruston has great teachers who make classes enjoyable and a comfortable environment. I met many friends from all over the world and learned different cultures, which I cannot learn in class. We had lunch together every day and dinner on the weekend. If you become an ELS student in Ruston, you will make a lot of friends and have many activities like bowling, short trips and pizza day. Come to Ruston to study English. Here has a good atmosphere to concentrate on studying! When I finished my English study at ELS Ruston, I chose to stay in Ruston and I’m a successful student in the Interior Design program at Louisiana Tech.
