What is Conditional Admission?
Institutions in the ELS University Conditional Admission Network offer conditional admission to students who are academically admissible based on the student’s academic record and other university and/or departmental and program requirements, but who have not yet demonstrated English proficiency. Your admission is “conditional” based upon satisfying English proficiency through completion of a specified level of the ELS English for Academic Purposes program and any other specific requirements prior to full admission. Once these requirements are fulfilled, you are able to fully matriculate. These requirements will be outlined on your Conditional Letter of Admission, and your selected ELS center will assist you in completing all of the necessary requirements for matriculation.
Additional matriculation requirements may include other required scores, for example, GMAT® or GRE® for graduate programs.
Our ELS University Partners will offer a Conditional Letter of Admission (CLA) detailing the additional requirements needed for matriculation. You and your family can be assured that you have a university placement and ELS registration prior to departing for the USA.
What is the Conditional Admission Process?
- Find a university via our University Finder
- Apply for university admission and enroll for English studies at ELS Language Centers with help from a local ELS authorized Counseling Agent.
- If you are an acceptable candidate for university admission, you receive a letter of "Conditional university admission subject to English proficiency and submission of any other required documentation for matriculation."
- Study at any of the 60 ELS Centers in the USA to fulfill the university entrance requirement for English proficiency.
- Begin your university program!

ELS have helped me with my English significantly especially in writing. I remember my first day at ELS/Seattle. I had no confidence in my English skill, but look at me now- full of confidence! I would like to thank everybody at ELS/Seattle for their help and I would never forget my time here.

Coming to the U.S to achieve your goal is something everyone doesn't do often. Before I came to ELS I loved taking classes at another language school and I thought with the certificate of that school I will be able to enter college class without taking the TOEFL or IELTS test. But since I have come to ELS I have gotten the chance I wanted to get because I wanted to go to a school that has arrangements with many Universities and Colleges that can facilitate me pursuing my major in office skill management.

Before I studied at ELS, even it wasn't easy to order Caramel Macchiato because of my pronunciation. They couldn't understand what I ordered! While I've been studying English with the great teachers and classmates at ELS, I could improve not only my English but also confidence. Also, I learned how to treat many people of different nationalities. For me, ELS isn't just school. I really appreciate ELS for everything.

ELS is a great place to study and improve your English language skills required in universities, colleges and simply everyday life. I am grateful that I got the chance to study in ELS, though only for a session, for it improved my language skills, especially spoken English. The classes there not only discuss about the lessons, but they also have many class discussions every day. A great place to start your study if you are going to a college or university like me.
The teachers there are also super friendly. They are very helpful in class, always giving answers our your questions, even to the silliest ones. They all know you one by one and can give out feedback depending on what you are lacking in class.

Raghad at One World Trip to NYC
July 22, 2014
Those five days I spent in New York will always be on my mind. I was inspired by all the people I met there, who were cultivated, talented and creative. Learning about different cultures around the world is one of the things I enjoy doing, ELS gave me the chance to do that. The first day was the day we arrived to Adelphi University, where we stayed for five days. On that day, we were told about the things we were going to do on the program. The second day was the hardest day. We prepared a presentation about peace and how we can achieve it, and then we presented it in Adelphi University theatre. On the third day, we visited the United Nations, which was a big honor for me, I met Mr. Ward; one of the teachers who corrected my essay. After that, we had dinner together at Hard Rock Cafe. I loved the atmosphere there; the 80’s rock and roll music. On the fourth day, which was the busiest day, we visited The Empire State Building. The view of New Your City at the top of The Empire State Building was
breathtaking, I felt like the world was mine! After that, we went shopping and took a tour around New York. When we went back to the University, we had a farewell dinner and took some pictures together. Finally, we had a closing party in Black Box Theatre, where we danced and had fun together for the last time. The fifth day was the day we said goodbye to each other. Those last moments were really hard, because we all felt that the five days were not just five days! We felt like we had known each other for a long time! Ah. Just writing about this trip makes want to go back there! Thank you to all my teachers in ELS Seattle. I am thankful for all the staff of ELS.

ELS adopted me when I was a caterpillar learning English. They raised me until I got my wings to fly and reach my dreams at Seattle University. I really appreciate ELS and keep in mind that nothing is hard and everything is possible if you believe.

"I will never speak English". This what I was saying before I came to ELS. This school made learning English so easy for me. After a while I realized that English is the most interesting thing in my life. To learn English well you need to trust yourself, do your homework and practice English everyday.

I would like to say thank you ELS for helping me with English. I started learning English when I was 24 years old. It seemed hard to learn a new language well at this age. However, ELS pushed me up to study it. Now, I completed level 112 or the highest level at ELS. If you are looking for an English school to study in, I strongly recommend ELS Seattle. It provides big opportunity to improve your English step by step. For me, I spent great time here. The stuff and teachers are reflecting the kindness of Seattle. You should come to touch your dream.

To be honest, learning English language in ELS Seattle is a great step if your are up to continuing with higher education. ELS Seattle teaches you what you need to know about the language. In addition to that, not only does ELS have a great plan in English, but it also has helpful staff who are willing to answer all your questions. If you a bit confused about what is better for you, you better know that ELS is the optimal option you have got.

I really enjoyed my time at ELS. There are many students who are from other countries, so I learned not only English but also cultures of other countries. The classes were very exciting and I enjoyed studying English with my friends. I love ELS and my friends here. Studying at ELS was a very good experience for me.

I came to ELS Seattle because I have family here. My uncle and his family live in Seattle as well as a cousin who moved here from Venezuela 8 years ago. She went to ELS and told me that she had a great experience. As to my experience in the last 5 months, I can say that I have not thought about Venezuela because ELS feels like my family. Everyone knows each other from the activities we have each weekend. I have learned more and more English and culture from the other international students. I think that the difference between ELS and the other schools is that ELS is a family and other schools are just schools.

I came to ELS because I heard about it in my county and a lot of my friends encouraged me to go there. I learned a lot of things in ELS. It’s true that I didn’t like the weather in Seattle, but that doesn’t affect my personal feelings about ELS. They let me feel like I was at home. Good teachers, advisors, and students were at ELS/Seattle. I found all of these wonderful things at ELS/Seattle. They worked really hard to let us enjoy their activities. I really recommend that you study at ELS/Seattle. Not only will you learn English, you will learn about current events and what is new in life. Finally, they helped me a lot to get into Seattle University. So, don’t wait anymore and don’t miss your chance to learn English... Believe me; they will help you with anything you need.
