What is Conditional Admission?

Institutions in the ELS University Conditional Admission Network offer conditional admission to students who are academically admissible based on the student’s academic record and other university and/or departmental and program requirements, but who have not yet demonstrated English proficiency. Your admission is “conditional” based upon satisfying English proficiency through completion of a specified level of the ELS English for Academic Purposes program and any other specific requirements prior to full admission. Once these requirements are fulfilled, you are able to fully matriculate. These requirements will be outlined on your Conditional Letter of Admission, and your selected ELS center will assist you in completing all of the necessary requirements for matriculation.

Additional matriculation requirements may include other required scores, for example, GMAT® or GRE® for graduate programs.

Our ELS University Partners will offer a Conditional Letter of Admission (CLA) detailing the additional requirements needed for matriculation. You and your family can be assured that you have a university placement and ELS registration prior to departing for the USA.

What is the Conditional Admission Process?

  1. Find a university via our University Finder
  2. Apply for university admission and enroll for English studies at ELS Language Centers with help from a local ELS authorized Counseling Agent.
  3. If you are an acceptable candidate for university admission, you receive a letter of "Conditional university admission subject to English proficiency and submission of any other required documentation for matriculation."
  4. Study at any of the 60 ELS Centers in the USA to fulfill the university entrance requirement for English proficiency.
  5. Begin your university program!

Center Director

I have been with ELS for nine wonderful years. I've migrated across the state of Florida to follow the growth of the company. I was born in the Philippines, but grew up in the United States. I have a Master's degree in Bicultural-Bilingual Studies. I began teaching Spanish after my undergratuate degree and continued teaching English as a Second Language when I began my graduate program. Teaching and working with international students have been both challenging and rewarding. Seeing the students gain the English that they need to go to a US university is my biggest reward in my job.

Academic Director

I joined ELS Tampa as Academic Director at the start of 2016 after immigrating to the United States from Australia in 2015. Before coming to ELS I taught English for 7 years in Australia, South Korea and Japan. I hold a Masters degree in Applied Linguistics from Monash University and a Bachelors degree in English from the University of Queensland. In my free time I enjoy swimming in the ocean, kayaking, eating foreign food and learning new things. The thing I enjoy most about working at ELS is seeing students work hard and succeed.

I have been with ELS/Tampa since December 2015. I received a Bachelor’s Degree from the University of South Florida in Business Management, with a minor in Information Systems Management. I have past experience in finance and office management. I currently handle student finances, housing and assist other staff members as needed to ensure all students are satisfied with their ELS experience. I enjoy this job as it allows me to work with a variety of people and learn about other cultures.

It all started when I came to enroll at the University of Tampa. I came to ELS/Tampa in order to take the IELTS exam, however, the ELS staff told me that I could take an English course which will provide me with the English that I need to study at UT. So I did. Now, after nine months, I'm a student at UT. ELS helped me achieve my goal.

I am a Turkish student who was awarded a scholarship to study English & a Master's degree in the US by the Turkish Ministry of Education. Therefore, I came to Tampa and I have pursued an excellent English education. When I compare my first and last month here, I am proud to say that I have achieved several crucial goals such as getting a high score in GRE & IELTS exam as well as an acceptance for a Master's degree. Thank you ELS, Mom and Dad!

I am a student at ELS/Tampa and I really enjoy the time with my teachers and friends. The teachers help me a lot through the difficult time when I just came to Tampa. I learned many grammar points and vocabulary words and living in an American school. Thanks for the patience that the teachers gave me and also thanks to my friends who gave me a lot of help.

Before I came ELS Tampa, I used to study English in California. There are many Japanese Students so I wasn't able to use English much. On the other hand, in ELS Tampa, there are less Japanese. I have more opportunity to speak English. Plus staff, teachers and students are really nice and helpful. Since I came here, my English has improved. Thanks to them. I recommend ELS Tampa. Thank you!
