ELS Seattle is located in the trendy Capitol Hill neighborhood near downtown Seattle, Washington, within walking distance of Pike Place Market, stadiums, and shopping. Ride a ferry to one of the Washington islands, visit the Seattle Space Needle, spend the weekend in Portland or Vancouver, explore the outdoors, or enjoy lunch in the International District.

Great Things to See and Do

  • Olympic Sculpture Park: This section of the Seattle Art Museum features works by artists including Alexander Calder, Claes Oldenburg and Roxy Paine.

  • The Center is surrounded by restaurants, cafes and coffee shops. The Center has a lounge - with tables, couches, a refrigerator, microwaves and a foosball table - where students can eat lunch and spend their free time. Students can get a library card for the Seattle Public Library, which works at the Central downtown location and several neighborhood locations. A local bank representative visits the Center on the first day of the session to assist new students with setting up a bank account.

Homestays are located in Seattle suburban areas along bus lines. Host family students are responsible for their personal transportation.

Student Residence (Off Campus)

ELS students may now reserve single or double occupancy rooms at Hostelling International at the American Hotel. Located in the International District of Seattle, adjacent to downtown, the American Hotel is lnear several transit hubs (light rail, street car, bus, Amtrak) and is a 10- to15-minute commute to the center. The dorm-style hostel has single and double occupancy rooms, with shared common areas including a fully equipped kitchen, TV room, bathrooms in hallways, mini-library and game room, public computer room and coin operated washer/dryer room. The American Hotel provides a safe environment for all residents with a front desk that is staffed 24 hours a day. The front door is locked from 9 pm to 7 am. At night, students will need to have their key to enter the building. Numerous restaurants and grocery options are minutes away and entertainment (including major sporting events and nightlife) is within walking distance. In addition, the American Hotel hosts its own activities such as walking tours of neighborhoods, movie nights and game nights. The American Hotel is located 14 miles (22km) from Seattle-Tacoma International Airport(SEA).
