About the program

The Academic English Preparation (AEP) program is fast-paced and challenging preparing students for direct entry into an Australian vocational or higher education institution.  

Academic English Preparation 1  (AEP1)

AEP1 provides an introduction to Academic English skills. This 10 week course has been structured to assist Lower Intermediate level students in preparing for our direct-entry course, AEP2. 

Academic English Preparation 2  (AEP2)

AEP2 prepares students for the demands of studying at TAFE or a vocational college. Over 10 weeks, the course develops language and study skills needed to succeed in a tertiary environment. Successful completion of AEP2 provides direct-entry to various Certificate, Diploma and Advanced Diploma courses, as well as entry into AEP3

Academic English Preparation 3  (AEP3)

AEP3 is designed to prepare students for studying at university. The focus is on essay writing, research skills, critical thinking, as well as academic  speaking, reading and listening.  Successful completion of AEP3 provides students with direct-entry into their chosen Undergraduate or Postgraduate courses at our various partner universities.

Curriculum

The curriculum is fast-paced and challenging. Students will develop all the skills they need to achieve success in an Australian university or college environment.

Skills covered include: 

  • Essay and report writing
  • Academic listening and reading
  • Note taking
  • Presentation development and delivery
  • Academic reading and critical analysis
  • Leading and participating in discussions
  • Research and referencing

Attend monthly information sessions, meet with your teachers to track your progress, and attend regular visits to ELS Australia partner institution campuses.

ELS Pathways: Successfully completing this program excuses you from the TOEFL® or IELTSTM examination requirements at over 30 Australian ELS partner institutions.

29 January (8 weeks), 16 April, 21 May, 25 June, 30 July, 3 September, 8 October, 12 November, 17 December.

 

Academic English Preparation

    • 3 levels: AEP1, AEP2, and AEP3
  • Number of hours per week:
    • 22.5 hours per week
  • Number of weeks for each level:
    • 10 weeks
  • Maximum number of students per class:
    • 18 students
  • Age requirements:
    • Minimum age is 16
  • Entry requirements:
    • Successful completion of a pre-course entry test prior to course commencement to determine your entry point, OR a valid IELTS result: 
    • AEP1 – IELTS 4.5 (No band lower than 4.0)
    • AEP2 – IELTS 5.0 (No band lower than 4.5)
    • AEP3 – IELTS 5.5 (No band lower than 5.0)
