About the program

Gain the English proficiency you need and get accepted into your chosen university – quickly! ELS FastTrack allows you to study English for eight hours per day in a small class of students who share your proficiency level. 

Steps to the ELS FastTrack:

STEP 1: Choose your degree program

Apply through ELS University Admission Services. You do not need to take the TOEFL®or IELTS before you apply.

STEP 2: Obtain Conditional Letters of Admission

Gain Conditional Admission from your top three university choices

STEP 3: Apply to study at an ELS FastTrack location in the United States

Choose from any of the ELS FastTrack locations in the U.S.A. Go to for university options.

STEP 4: Arrive at the ELS Center and begin ELS FastTrack

Arrive in July 2017 (or October 2017 for community colleges) and begin ELS FastTrack.

STEP 5: Successfully complete ELS FastTrack

STEP 6: Begin your degree study in the spring semester of 2017!

ELS FastTrack

  • Eight hours of instruction per day
  • Each level is completed in three weeks
  • Students must enroll for the full ELS FastTrack program:
    • For university study: five sessions plus two bonus sessions
    • For community college study: four sessions plus one bonus session
  • All students must complete the ELS English for Academic Purposes Level required by their college or university.


ELS offers 12 proficiency levels (Beginner to Masters), as well as placement testing to determine the level that best fits your abilities. At the end of every four-week session, if you successfully meet your level's requirements, you will move up to the next level. As you progress through the levels, your courses build upon the skills you learned in the lower levels and become more complex.
Levels 101/102/103
  • Communicates at a basic level in everyday situations
  • Understands English when spoken to slowly and clearly
  • Understands a few words and phrases
  • Responds to simple questions and directions
Levels 104/105/106
  • Communicates facts and opinions
  • Discusses and argues in a culturally acceptable way
  • Understands most questions and statements at normal speaking speed
  • Carries on conversations with native speakers
  • Uses English to shop, order food in restaurants and ask for directions
Option on Completion
  •  Enroll in the Complete Prep Program for the TOEFL iBT® or Business English Program (available at select Centers)
Levels 107/108/109
  • Communicates effectively in most social situations
  • Understands a wide range of idioms
  • Maintains extended conversations with native speakers
  • Uses English with growing accuracy and fluency, including reading and writing
  • Participates fully in most conversations
Option on Completion
  • Enroll concurrently in some host university courses
  • Enter a two-year college
  • Begin a University Certificate Program at participating ELS locations
Levels 110/111/112
  • Speaks and understands English with ease
  • Reads and writes with sufficient proficiency to satisfy professional and university requirements
  • Conducts business competently in English
Option on Completion
  • Begin an undergraduate or graduate degree program
