15 ELS/Boston students took a trip to the University of Massachusetts Boston campus to pack meals with Rise Against Hunger.
Rise Against Hunger, an international hunger relief organization, aims to show the world that it is possible to end hunger by the year 2030. With 28 U.S. locations and five international offices, the organization is committed to nourishing lives, providing emergency aid, empowering communities and growing the hunger movement. Rise Against Hunger has facilitated meal packaging of nearly 500 million meals to be distributed to 74 countries around the world.
While packing meals, ELS students were able to connect with students at the University of Massachusetts Boston, including members of the campus chapter of Sojourn Collegiate Ministry. The organization hosted and organized the initiative and were instrumental in getting our students involved in the event. Not only were the ELS students able to make an impact in the community by packing these meals, they were also able to learn about the volunteer culture here in the United States and practice their English with native speakers.
ELS/Boston students happily take part in service-related projects on a regular basis. Aside from packing meals with Rise Against Hunger, they also volunteer once a session at the Boston Rescue Mission to serve hot meals to locals in need.
ELS/Boston boasts a robust student activities program that focuses on unique opportunities for speaking English with native speakers. Students in any program are welcome to attend these various opportunities to practice their English and prepare for their future.
ELS/Boston is located in a fun, urban setting in the heart of Boston. The Boston Commons, Government Center, Theater District, and Chinatown are all within walking distance from the Center. To see some of these activities, follow @ELSBoston on Instagram.
