Student Stories: Meet Rodrigo from ELS Melbourne

rodrigo-els-melbourne

Rodrigo, from Brazil, is studying Intensive English at ELS Melbourne in Florida, USA.

Why did you decide to come to the USA to study?

I came here to improve my English and to be more prepared to expand my horizons. There are so many opportunities for personal growth from something like this.

How did you choose ELS as your school?

The agency I visited in Brazil recommended ELS to me as the best place to come.

What were you doing before you came to study in the USA?

I was working. I work at an investment house in Brazil.

Why did you choose your particular study city?

I picked Melbourne because my brother was already living here.

Tell me about your experience studying at ELS. What are your classes and teachers like?  What do you like most about your studies?

I can learn about a lot of cultures from the teachers while I improve my English. I don’t feel any pressure here, though, and I feel like learning is fun. It’s a different way of learning, and everything is communicative with lots of activities.

Tell me about the experience of studying on a College/University campus – what facilities do you use regularly?

The cafeteria is my favorite thing on campus at Florida Tech because I like having an all-you-can-eat buffet. The library is really good, too, though. It has many different floors for different types of books, study environments, etc. There’s even some 3D printers and a t-shirt printing machine!

Can you share a bit about the friendships you’ve made since coming to ELS?

I’ve met Japanese friends, Colombian, Chilean, Brazilian, Turkish, Saudi, etc. We hang out together after school and on weekends. We share stories and learn from each other about our cultures, language and other stuff.

What kinds of things do you like to do outside of class? What have been some of your favorite activities and excursions?

I like to hang out with friends, go shopping, play sports on campus, go to the beach, Starbucks, go to nightclubs. I’m really excited to go to on the ELS trip to Halloween Horror Nights at Universal Studios in October!

What is your plan after you finish your studies at ELS?

Go back to Brazil and keep working. But I may want to work study or work abroad later.

What advice would you give to someone like you who is thinking about doing what you have done, travelling to the USA to study English?

Just do it! It’s the best experience you will ever have. It’s good for your job, your mind, your whole life. You won’t regret it!
