Summary of Program

The Intensive Online Plus (ION+) program includes 16 hours of remote teaching each week, plus individual work in Guided E-Learning (GEL), MyELT and My English Lab learning platforms. 

The 16 hours of remote teaching includes:

  • 6 hours of Structure and Speaking Practice (SSP)
  • 6 hours of Reading and Writing
  • 2 small group instruction sessions
  • One 2-hour group activity on Fridays.

You can also sign up for Virtual Office Hours with your teacher for extra practice or counseling.

All classes are fully aligned with the ELS curriculum so you can work towards your Certificate of Completion, which is accepted in place of IELTS/TOEFL at 650+ universities in the US and Canada.

FAQs

Yes! Online classes will follow the same ELS curriculum and books used in regular classes. In addition, this curriculum is supplemented with interactive listening, reading, writing and grammar exercises across ELS’ innovative online language learning platforms. Instructors will review this work and provide feedback and guidance to students throughout the week.

Online program features include:

  • 16 hours of live instruction in speaking, reading, writing and listening plus American Experience - fully aligned with our in-classroom instruction
  • Weekly one-on-one meetings with instructors
  • Virtual contact with Americans

Yes. The content on all of the online platforms can be accessed on a phone. However, because you will be spending a lot of time doing online coursework and assignments, we recommend using a computer or tablet.

Students will receive grades in the online classes the same way they received grades in class. However, because of the online format, the assessments will not be exactly the same. Students will be assessed based on attendance and participation in live sessions, completion of online listening, grammar and reading activities, and speaking and writing evaluations.

Yes. Students who pass the level with an overall average of 79% or higher will advance to the next level. The online live instruction and educational platform is fully aligned with the ELS methodology. You can work toward your Certificate of Completion, which is accepted by more than 650+ colleges and universities in US and Canada.

Each week, you will participate in group classes with instructors, private one-on-one sessions with instructors, and independent work online. It will be 16 hours of remote teaching, plus individual work in the GEL platform. 

Listening and speaking practice and feedback will be a particular focus in during the Structure and Speaking class. Listening and speaking will be done through guided interactions with the teacher and in monitored discussions with other students in online breakout rooms. Listening practice will also be emphasized in independent online activities.

Yes! You can complete up to and including level 112 through ION+ and receive your Certificate of Completion. If you want to study at ELS Canada after studying in the ION+ program, you should apply for a Student Visa first, before you begin the ION+ program. See the FAQ’s ION+ and ELS Canada.

If you want to study in Canada with ELS or with one of ELS Canada’s Partner Institutions after you study in ELS’ ION+ program, you should apply for a Canadian Student Visa in your home country first, before you begin the ION+ program.

The maximum class size for SSP and RW is 15 students. There is also one period of “small group instruction” for SSP and RW each week. The maximum class size for “small group instruction” is 8.

ELS is proud to offer classes at two different times to teach our students around the world. We know that ELS students have busy lives in their home countries that may include working full-time, attending school, and taking care of their families. At present, ELS offers classes at:

  • 11:00 AM – 1:50 PM EST
  • 8:00 PM – 10:50 PM EST

There are no additional fees.

We prefer receiving applications as soon as possible for better planning, but 1 week before the session start is the deadline. If you have applicants after this deadline, please let us know and we will do our very best to accommodate.
